We will start off with games of cooperation, inclusion, communication and listening.
The focus of every class is to get the students to engage with different members of their group in a cooperative way. Good sportsmanship is a key component of this. Skills and basic rules of games are introduced to the youger grades Pre-K-3. As the grades get older the skills and rules become a bit more complex as does the intensity of the game or task given.
In February we do Jump Rope for Heart to beneift the American Heart Association.
We do do a small dance unit , nutrition for grade 2 , and in May is field day!
Gym Uniform Students are required to wear :
Blue t-shirt ( white is acceptable if they do not have a blue one yet),
Blue shorts,
White socks - that can bee seen above their sneakers
Sneakers that tie * no slip-on shoes please, safety!
Sweatshirts are required as part of the Winter uniform. Name must be on tag or written inside. If the students gets warm due to activity they may take it off only if their name is on it.
Sweatpants are required as part of the winter uniform. Name must be written in them.
Girls that have long hair should have it put in a hair tie so it will not bother them while doing the activity
***Dr. Note is needed if your child is not able to participate in physical education class. If possible the note needs to specify what your child is able or unable to do, and length of time the child 's activity will be restricted. A note from the doctor stating that they are clear to resume gym activites is also required for them to participate.
Warm Up:
Jog : 10Jumping Jacks 10Opposite toe touches (each side is one; Ex. 1, 1, 2, 2) Straddle Stand : Hanging stretch arms down to ground infront for 10 count, switch to one side 10 count, middle 10 count, other side 10 count. Legs together : Stand tall arms above head then reach for toes. 10 count ( 3 reps) Straddle stretch on ground. Sit legs in wide V shape and arms reach out infront on ground as far as can go with legs staying straight 10 count. Reach to one side 10 count, middle 10 count, side 10 count. Sit and Reach stretch: Sit on ground legs together and straight out infront. Try to touch toes keeping legs straight, Go as far as possible. 10 count (3 reps) Butterfly; Bottom of feet together. Sit up straight for 10 count. Round body down toward toes for 10 count. (2 reps)
Sit ups/Crunches: Can vary leg position straight or bent. Sit ups 15. Crunches 30-40 reps.
That is the warm up and then off to the skill or game.
